An 86-year-old Stanley Thompson design, Cedarhurst plays best when the fairways are edged by swaths of the namesake evergreen. On the front nine, short par fours—four of them under 350 yards—are offset by a couple of long par threes. The first of these, the third, demands a whopping 243 yards from the tee; with forest on either side, two green-side bunkers and a two-tier green, however, more than distance is necessary. The back nine eases up, but not before it punishes with the 433-yard 10th. After a healthy 253-yard drive before a creek, you must cut your second shot around dense cedar forest. The fairways widen on the back, but there is also more water. The price and peace of this course make it worth the drive.
