Good players may fall asleep on Scarlett Woods’ flip-wedge par threes and pipsqueak 250-yard dogleg par fours, but a handful of real tests on this executive course should wake up even more experienced golfers. The signature 17th hole is a solid 155-yard par three: from a newly rebuilt elevated tee you must handily negotiate a murky pond to a minuscule green. The 320-yard, par four 12th bends around the Humber River, offering a tempting drive over the dangerous corner, past the mighty oak tree located in the centre of the fairway. Scarlett Woods is a perfect course for children, and many people do bring them along. On a warm spring Sunday, among the blossoming cherry trees, willows and oaks, you might hear the charming voice of a boy telling his father (who has just duffed a chip shot), “That one counts, Dad.”
