With a short yardage, a slope of just 120 and a rating of 67.8, Richmond Hill looks like easy pickings. Think again. Pretty as the course is—that’s the Don River you’re hitting over, around or, most likely, into—a full and leafy treeline doesn’t necessarily look good on your scorecard. Thick forests and narrow fairways will dissuade you from hitting with your driver, making those 6,000 yards seem a lot more ominous. The par five 18th typifies the course. Though the hole is just 495 yards from the back tees, both the river on the right and the thick forest on the left encourage you to hit an iron off the tee. Happily, the second half of the fairway opens up. The bunker at the front right looms (and yes, pretty much everything feeds that way), so make an intelligent decision here. It has been double-eagled, so if the round’s a bust, why not go for it?
