Humber Valley is a like a miniaturized version of a classic parkland course: the holes are nicely contoured through mature trees, and the greens are large, undulating and surprisingly well manicured for a city course. At just over 5,400 yards from the back tees, the course is simply not very long. The 12 par fours range from 249 to 366 yards; one of the par threes is a laughable 89 yards (although you won’t be laughing if you hit it to the wrong side of the tiered green). In summer the place is filled with junior golfers and retirees, who come in droves for the seniors’ discount and perhaps the illusion that they can still hit the ball like they did back in the day. For the better player, the course doesn’t have much bite until the end. Fourteen is a par four with the Humber River all along the right side; the 15th is one of the tougher par threes in the city—the pin is tucked into the back corner, with water to the right and in back. It’s a pretty course with just enough trouble to keep things interesting.
