Ontario’s most luxurious lakeside resort is famous for tennis, but it’s now a major golf destination, too, with the addition of a Thomas McBroom–designed private golf course next door. The 18-hole, par 72 Ridge at Manitou (open to members and inn guests) is one of the most spectacular courses in cottage country. Golfers tee up at the inn’s teaching centre, while tennis players get top-flight instruction on 11 courts. But you don’t have to be sporty to stay here: the inn is decorated with a collection of fine art and antiques, there’s a high-end restaurant, and a number of suites have spectacular views of Lake Manitouwabing. A spa offers a de-stressing Thai massage and an aromatherapy facial, among other treatments.
