Sir Sam’s Inn & WaterSpa

The 1919 timbered mansion at the edge of Eagle Lake in Haliburton cottage country was once the summer home of Samuel Hughes, as evidenced by the WWI photos of the general hanging in the resort’s Gunners Pub. Through a series of expansions, the most recent of which included a water spa, the historic house has evolved into a 27-room couples-oriented resort. In winter, rooms at the main inn are popular due to their proximity to the ground-floor dining room, where entrées might include house-made pasta purses stuffed with smoked chicken in a creamy tomato sauce. There’s also a hill for downhill skiing, and trails for cross-country skiing nearby. Almost every room has a wood-burning fireplace and whirlpool, and all rooms have a view of the water. In a new wing of the main inn, the indoor hydrotherapy saltwater pool adds a touch of glamour to the prevailing folksy atmosphere. Bathers get a view of the lake through picture windows, as they enjoy the fountains and whirlpools designed to massage various parts of the body. Relaxation massages and aesthetic treatments are offered in the adjoining spa.
