East of Peterborough, this B&B on a working farm offers wholesome family fun. Simple pleasures include tobogganing in January and watching honey being gathered from beehives in the fall. Tots adore the friendly critters: Jake the miniature donkey, Odie the horse, newly hatched chicks, three goats, and three pot-bellied pigs that answer to their names. Set in an 1879 farmhouse with a wraparound veranda, two guest rooms offer such old-fashioned touches as pine panelling and dormer windows; two others have the modern convenience of kitchenettes and ensuite bathrooms with corner Jacuzzis. Proprietors Ruth and Terry Hunter ready you for activity with a hearty breakfast: typically fresh fruit, scones, and egg and bread casseroles made with cream cheese. After breakfast, there’s some serious exploring to be done: the 245-acre property encompasses its own wetland nature preserve.
