Nestled on the north shore of Rice Lake, the cottages are cozy (pine trim, wood-burning fireplaces), but there are mod cons, too (whirlpool tubs, dishwashers, microwaves). With 240 acres, there’s room for kids to roam: exploring waterfront trails, hanging out at the dock and visiting the farm’s chickens, horses and Black Angus cattle. Free pontoon boat cruises, wagon rides and waterskiing entertain all generations. Miles of hiking and biking trails offer expansive views of the lake and neighbouring Bellmere Winds Golf Club (705-295-3673). Rice Lake’s shallow weedy waters are great for fishing, but swimmers prefer the two pools—one outdoors, one indoors. Much of the food served in the resort’s Hearthside dining room is raised on the property.
Driving Time:
two hours and 15 minutes.
When:
year-round.
How Much:
$140-$334 per two-person cottage.
