Set on 177 acres of green hills east of Algonquin Park, this casual B&B is known for hearty Italian dinners served at the on-site resto. On summer weekends, the enclosed porch of the 1860s house is often packed with locals who’ve dropped in for a meal. Friendly proprietors Luciana and Tino Costa brought an Italian sensibility with them when they purchased the old house (once painted by artist A.J. Casson) six years ago. Today the inn is popular with kayakers and canoeists who come to test their skills on the Madawaska River, as well as families enjoying Algonquin Park and local rockhounding spots. Like much of the region, the B&B exudes a folksy vibe: furnishings tend toward rustic comfort rather than high style. A ground-floor room with a king-size bed has an ensuite bathroom, lots of pine panelling and views of the pond. Two upstairs rooms, with sloping ceilings and rag rugs on the wood floors, share a bath. A separate cabin offers two beds in a large loft (accessed by a ladder), a second bedroom, a cheerful sunroom, a kitchenette and a small living room. In the main house, the original tin ceiling remains in the downstairs parlour, where guests may use the keyboard, television and games.
