After many incarnations (first a hotel, then a factory, later a tenement), this 1845 building on the banks of Port Hope’s Ganaraska River reopened in 2003 as a carefully renovated small hotel. Each of the 16 guest rooms features large windows, with views of the surrounding heritage district and river. Twelve-foot-high ceilings and custom-designed furniture add to the appeal; terrace rooms each have a balcony. A second building, the former 19th-century customs house, has been restored; the four two-bedroom suites with small kitchens are suitable for longer stays.
Driving Time:
one hour.
When:
year-round.
How Much:
$130–$230 per room.
