Hessenland Country Inn

  • 519-236-7707 • 866-543-7736
Set in the flat farmlands of Huron County, this 23-year-old hostelry is a five-minute walk from Lake Huron’s white sand beaches. Named after a German province, the inn has an old-world Teutonic ambience, thanks to many of the furnishings that the owners, the Ihrig family, brought with them from Germany. Comfy rooms have personality—nearly like staying in someone’s home. Two coach house suites have queen canopy beds, double Jacuzzis, corner gas fireplaces, and private balconies overlooking the gardens and Lake Huron in the distance. In late March the area is known as a migratory stopover for masses of white tundra swans. Stairs wind up the interior of a former silo offering sunset views of the 40-acre property. With advance notice, the kitchen will serve sunset dinner for two in the silo. Rouladen, assorted schnitzels, spaetzle and sauerkraut are dining room specialities. Courtesy pickup at Bayfield Marina or Grand Bend Harbour is available for boaters.
