With its thick limestone walls and wraparound veranda, this is one of Elora’s most impressive historic houses. Both a B&B and a culinary destination, the home belonged to the grandfather of 1940s Ontario premier George Drew. In the main house, four guest rooms and one suite are painted in vibrant colours that evoke the south of France; washrooms are shared (except in the suite). For those who prefer privacy, the coach house is the place to be; its six guest rooms each have private baths, while pine floors and restored barn beams add warmth to the simple, clean decor. Chef-proprietor Roger Dufau periodically offers cooking lessons in his spacious kitchen classroom. Guests may laze in the tree-shaded perennial garden or explore Elora’s scenery and shops. A walk through Victoria Park offers views of the Elora Gorge and river, but one of the best ways to enjoy the town’s scenery is on a horse-drawn buggy tour (519-638-5079).
Driving Time:
one and a half hours.
When:
year-round.
How Much:
$90–$115 per room, $225 per suite (sleeps up to five); cooking classes $50, includes full meal.
