for chic contemporary design. Set in old Montreal, the hotel’s cut stone exterior belies a modernist interior by Atelier YH2. Some of the guest rooms have polished concrete floors, exposed brick, lots of pale wood, and just enough colour in the carpets and chairs to create warmth. Soaker tubs and heated bathroom floors add to the comfort. The nicest features are the oldest: tall windows and stone walls. For afternoon tea, it’s a short walk to the magnificent Hotel le St-James (514-841-3111, 1-866-841-3111).
Driving Time:
seven hours.
When:
year-round.
How Much:
$169–$749 per room.
