Nestled down an atmospheric cobbled street, this 1725 stone building is one of the oldest in Montreal. Today, the deliciously old-fashioned ambience remains: think stone walls, dark wood panelling, timbered ceilings, antiques, oil paintings, four-poster beds and oriental carpets. By contrast, the marble bathrooms are brightly modern. The adjoining Les Filles du Roy restaurant is more traditional and cozy. Morning brings croissants and coffee served in a Victorian dining room. In summer, linger on the patio amid a flower-filled garden. Located in the southeast corner of the Old City, the hotel is handy to trendy restaurants, the artisan shops of the renovated Marché Bonsecours, and the historic Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel.

seven hours.
