Situated on the village of Warkworth’s main street, this renovated 1890s red-brick house has three prettily decorated second-floor rooms, each with ensuite bathrooms. The yellow Peacock Room, with its canopy bed, features a window seat where you can curl up to read or watch activity on the street below. The largest of the rooms is the baby blue Garden Suite, with its quilt-topped king bed. After a hearty breakfast of eggs florentine and warm croissants, a stroll down Warkworth’s main street reveals some interesting shops. The surrounding countryside makes for particularly scenic drives, thanks to the rolling hills of the Oak Ridges Moraine and local farms, including Century Game Park (705-924-3019) for bison and Sandy Flat Sugar Bush (705-924-2057) for maple syrup. Not to be missed: lunch at the new Oak Heights Estate Winery, where both the hilltop tasting room and patio have magnificent views. The maple-beech forest in nearby Peter’s Woods Provincial Park (905-436-2036) is said to be the last remaining old-growth forest on the moraine.
