Formerly Riverdale Zoo, the site reopened as a rustic barnyard back in 1978 and is designed specifically for kids (viewing platforms serve the short set, but remember to leave the dog at home). The quaint landscape is dotted with a period farmhouse, a windmill and old-fashioned fences; ducks splash in the three ponds. Despite the buzz of nearby traffic, the surroundings are placid. Grown-ups will appreciate the organic farmers’ market, held Tuesdays from May to October (3–7 p.m.). Special events include wool spinning, butter making and sheep shearing.
