Olive and Olive Oil

The range of products is decidedly narrow in this aptly named shop; everything is produced in Mehmet Uzel’s family village in northern Turkey. Black, green, marinated or stuffed, the olives are organically cultivated on the slopes near Gemlik and cured in old-fashioned stone vats. Only the juiciest specimens are used to make the peppery extra-virgin olive oil, which has a loyal following. Bars of olive oil soap are handmade by Uzel’s grandmother.
