Whole Foods Market

The food samples offered here could make a meal, from truffled walnuts to asiago–black pepper bread. In between, groceries of every kind abound. Pristine produce is arranged in elaborate centrepieces, including interesting exotics (when in season) such as Ugli fruit. Meat is available in many forms, be it fresh, marinated, kebabed or stuffed; fish is either “wild caught,” “hormone-free” or “humanely raised”—the catchphrases of the store. Helpful signs display an item’s provenance, whether that’s Québécois artisanal cheese or the Amish-farmed produce that comes twice-weekly in spring, summer and fall.
