If the adventurous Torontonian palate is more than an urban legend, this guide will lead to a run on balut. The southeast Asian street snack sells here for 99 cents—for the uninformed, it’s a duck egg containing a two-week embryo. Less groundbreaking is a nice selection of Filipino and Vietnamese ingredients, alongside a good fresh meat counter offering pork, beef and goat cut for Asian and West Indian recipes. Despite the Chinese name, the grocery is a multiculti hodgepodge: think halal bouillon cubes alongside Trinidadian sodas next to dried seaweed, Australian liver spread and prepared pad Thai.
