Once a humble fruit market, Longo’s has gradually blossomed into a family-owned grocery chain with 16 stores scattered across the GTA. The York Mills location is a one-stop shop for north Toronto foodies, with organic options and gourmet surprises in every section. In prepared foods, delectables include barbecued chicken, eggplant parmigiana and cabbage rolls. The capacious produce area offers lots of variety (a dozen types of tomatoes, for example). In meats, Beretta’s vacuum-packed beef steaks, franks and ground turkey are highlights. Choice cheeses include Balderson Vintners cheddar (one version to be paired with red wine, the other with white) and Beemster, a Dutch aged gouda. Stonemill breads are baked on-site.
