Pat Laconte’s enthusiasm for Italian food is contagious and her pride for the house-made salamis, pancetta and sausages crafted by husband Joe is unmistakable. An island in a sea of grey strip plazas, the tiny storefront seems festive by comparison, festooned with fresh and lively produce: red tomatoes, yellow zucchini blossoms, and green peppers. Inside, the air is filled with homey aromas and the chatter of customers, which seem to be visiting as much as shopping. Foodies come for the porchetta and cottagers stock up on all the essentials for a great weekend: breads, meats for the grill, cheeses and deli. Well-chosen bottled, dried and canned Italian staples, such as sun-dried cherry tomatoes in olive oil, unusual pastas, Sicilian honey, and dry-packed, salt-cured white anchovies, round out the offerings at Laconte.
