Patachou

Not only has the venerable café-pâtisserie moved (one block south on Yonge), it has expanded its hours—and its repertoire. Now open for the after-work crowd, the shop has broadened its array of catered dishes. Best bets are the comfort foods: veal lasagna and beef bourguignon are among the most popular last-minute dinners. Quiche, salads and sandwiches solve the lunch conundrum. More shelving means more homemade packaged goods—the city’s best jams, of course, but also such useful entertaining staples as cheese sticks, biscotti and chewy ginger cookies. For many Rosedale families, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Patachou’s bûches de Noël; and brunch wouldn’t be brunch without some of its stellar almond croissants. Lovely custom wedding cakes are displayed along the back wall.
