Fans of Tournayre, a Queen East pâtisserie that closed in 2003, have cause to rejoice. Its French-trained owner and pastry chef, Marc Tournayre, has reopened shop. Sleek, chocolate brown shelves and pristine glass displays are stocked with smartly packaged cookies (orange-flavoured madeleines, tuiles and palmiers) and elegant tarts and cakes: one such offering, the best-selling Jules, is a flourless sponge cake filled with rich chocolate mousse and coffee ganache. In savouries, there are quiche to please a crowd; the divine croque monsieur makes for a simple lunch at one of the café tables in the back. Closed Monday.
