Tiny dancers from the Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre, just a few graceful steps away, spin pirouettes while waiting for their scoop of Kawartha Dairy ice cream. By day, Emilio Ojeda is a business administrator; by night, he attends George Brown’s chef school, and somewhere in there, he manages to turn out sumptuous gelato and decadent cakes. His spectacular pistachio gelato is made with authentic Sicilian pistachio paste. His friend José Arato, a pastry chef, supplies the shop with beautiful fruit tarts, and there’s espresso for affogatos, an Italian classic of vanilla gelato drowned in espresso.
