The Mercantile

After nine years in its diminutive College Street digs, this gourmet shop has moved to a roomier space on Roncesvalles. The quaint decor and specialty food items have been designed with aesthetics in mind. For example, coffee drinkers can pulverize I Deal Coffee beans in a giant orange vintage grinder, and tea kits come with 15 slick aluminum canisters filled with such loose-leaf varieties as lemon-ginger and gunpowder green. Fancy ingredients—Epicentre spices and rubs and Manitoulin Island jams and chutneys—complement produce and Polish meats picked up elsewhere along the strip.
