Salt cod is a huge seller at this home of all things Portuguese. There are various grocery items, but the fish counter across the length of the large store is the real attraction. It displays so many uncommon whole fish that it attracts the likes of Susur Lee and Chris McDonald. Owner José Cerqueira brings in wild Portuguese sea bass, scorpion fish (“like red snapper”), scabbard fish and moray eel, to name a few. Salted, preserved, canned and frozen fish are also specialties. But it’s worth the trip just for the Portuguese cheeses, which are gaining in both critical acclaim and popularity. Closed Sunday.
