Stick to the good selection of mostly Canadian options here, such as wild Atlantic sturgeon caviar; golden white fish caviar from Lake Huron; and the black, pearly Mujjol caviar from Spain, excellent as a finishing or cooking caviar, and well-priced at $15 for a 120-gram jar. There are mother-of-pearl spoons, too, for serving, and all the dishes one might need for accompaniments. Owner Mark Omidi supplies many of Toronto’s top shops, but what inspires customers to buy direct from him is his knowledge of caviar, his desire to share it, and his willingness to give customers the opportunity to see, smell and taste before making their purchase. Omidi’s passion is caviar, but he also carries a range of such sublime foodstuffs as sargol, the best Persian saffron available. There are fresh summer and winter truffles and an exquisite aged Italian balsamic vinegar. Coveted by vinegar collectors, it rings in at $175 for a 100-millilitre bottle. By appointment.
