Finding a good cup of goulash on the go is no easy mission, which is why Euro-friendly foodies flock to this international deli and specialty foods store, a neighbourhood staple for the past 20 years. Austrian master butcher Peter Reither stocks his shelves with treasures from all over the globe (almost everything but the maple syrup is imported), with a particular focus on the cuisine from his homeland and surrounding areas. Veal and pork schnitzels ($5) are a customer favourite, as are the 26-plus salads and slaws (potato, Greek, seafood, chickpea) and five flavours of ready-to-eat miniature meat loaf made on the premises ($5). Shelves are stocked with Hero jams from Switzerland, Austrian Manner Cream Wafers and Sharwood’s Indian sauces from England. Regulars perch at a small deli counter snacking on made-to-order sandwiches, homemade mac-and-cheese or chicken à la king (all priced by weight).
