Mark McEwan’s new grocery store is a 20,000-square-foot treasure trove of gourmet ingredients. Rows of spicy preserves, still warm from being canned or jarred upstairs, give a down-home feel that is juxtaposed with an urban-sci-fi aesthetic created by stainless steel counters and white lights. Dine-in foodophiles with expensive tastes will swoon over McEwan’s line of ready-to-cook and ready-to-heat meals, made with his signature restaurant recipes: Bymark burger patties, truffle mac-and-cheese and braised beef short ribs. There’s also a large produce section with many local and seasonal items, a Belgian chocolate counter that would give Dean and Deluca a run for its Valrhona, and such rare delicacies as edible flowers sold by the box.
