When novice cooks tackle Japanese cuisine, this is where they come. Staff are extremely helpful, and all the necessary ingredients are here. Shipments arrive from Japan twice a week: packets of the finest dried seaweeds, pickles and noodles in vacuum packs, frozen seafood, and fresh (often organic) produce. Bottles of yuzu juice, black and brown rice vinegar, and white soy sauce stand beside tubes of wasabi, Kewpie mayo and fresh shiso leaves. Wild matsutake mushrooms, the Japanese equivalent of truffles, are flown in from B.C. Closed Tuesday.
