Outside, milk crates support cardboard boxes full of exotic fruits and veggies. Inside, shelves display bags of every conceivable dried bean, flour, rice and spice. Nostalgia, history, kitsch and Ayurveda are also on offer: Thumbs Up cola bottled in India, turmeric vanishing cream and Miswak toothpaste. Convenience food here means family-sized jars or packets of roti, vegetarian-friendly paneer (rennet-free cheese) and cans of sweetened mango pulp. Must-trys: Dabur Himalayan honey, with hints of molasses; candied fennel seeds (a sweet digestive); and black salt, which comes with the sulphur still attached.
