Award-winning barista and owner Stuart Ross knows most of the customers by name, and there’s a slight club feel to this small black-and-white room, where gays from the village mingle with actors, activists and drive-by drinkers who clearly view the place as a destination. Americanos (small $2, large $3) come with as much or as little water as desired—a personal touch rarely offered at indie shops. No brewed coffee, but notably smooth espresso and several variations, including an exceptionally creamy cappuccino-latte hybrid called the Bulldog ($3). bulldogtoronto.com
