Moonbean Coffee Company

Psychedelic tunes of yore mingle with animated chatter, laughter and the gentle clink of mugs at this bustling Kensington Market café, which has a wide selection of coffees (all roasted on-site) and loose-leaf teas, many certified fair-trade organic. Ethiopian brews (such as the Yirga Cheffe Oromia, with its complex fruitiness and hints of mocha) lure discerning coffee drinkers onto the premises, while authentic Japanese matcha lattes, gentle rooibos blends and flowering tea balls woo the tea-drinking set. Slouchy banquettes and mismatched tables have seen better days, but their scruffy, well-loved demeanour fits in with Moonbean’s unpretentious attitude.
