Just as hard to find as the Kensington Market café (look for the atomic coffee cup sign propped up in the window), the new, second branch is more mellow, all the better to linger over a newspaper while buying beans. The eccentric decor includes marble-topped counters, varnished pews and accents of orange paint. Coffee beans are still roasted daily at the Kensington Market location and staff are ready and able to explain the relative merits of roasty Prince of Darkness and clean-finish Guatemalan. From the beans to the muffins and cookies, nothing is labelled, so shopping here always involves a personal transaction. There’s a free latte (or other caffeinated drink of your choice) included in the purchase of a pound of beans.
