Cheese Emporium

Spacious and organized, this shop is a calming antidote to the city’s claustrophobic fromageries. Locavores be damned; with the exception of some Quebec finds, the selection is defiantly European, with offerings from France, Italy, Germany and Spain. Whether it’s gooey taleggio or piquant Carles Roquefort, the focus is on raw milk cheeses under DOP or AOC banners. Staff impress with their knowledge of unique treasures—a gruyère aged in the Swiss Kaltbach caves, for example. From La Maison terrines to dry-cured Spanish chorizo, there is everything needed for a smart charcuterie plate; the extensive olive bar rounds out the party nibbles.
