Knowledgeable servers and immaculate displays of meat, fish and packaged goods: these are the specialties at this Forest Hill favourite. Burger aficionados come for Nortown’s famous patties (beef, chicken and veal), but the carnivore’s counter offers other impressive cuts—turkey or veal hotdogs, say, or peppercorn rib steaks. A small selection of fish includes fresh, plum-coloured tuna, and salmon-vegetable kebabs. Nortown also prepares its own soups and salads, and has a line of cookies, muffins and pies. The shop imports such specialties as vegetarian chili. Pickles, blintzes, sauerkraut, matzo balls and latkes cater to the hood’s Jewish residents. Closed Saturday.
