Burger aficionados come for Nortown’s famous patties (beef, chicken and veal), but the carnivore’s counter offers other impressive cuts—turkey or veal hotdogs, say, or peppercorn rib steaks. A small selection of fish includes fresh, plum-coloured tuna, and salmon-vegetable kebabs. Nortown also prepares its own soups and salads, and has a line of cookies, muffins and pies. The shop imports such specialties as vegetarian chili. Pickles, blintzes, sauerkraut, matzo balls and latkes cater to the hood’s Jewish residents. Closed Saturday.
