A butcher’s since 1929, this bustling shop with Old World charm—a quaint cashier’s booth, folk-art barnyard critters—is as much a neighbourhood hub as a place to pick up a steak. Quality and variety are key: local lamb and chicken, Canadian double- or triple-A beef (wet-aged up to eight weeks) and organic salmon from Ireland. Seasonal specialties beckon: 20 types of marinating kebabs in summer; Cornish game hen, crown roasts and turducken come autumn. There are also grab-and-go birds, wings, ribs and fries for those not in the mood to cook.
