Made with organic, local flour and kneaded by those in need (thanks to a six-month apprenticeship program), St. John’s breads satisfy all the requirements for eating with a clear conscience. They taste good, too. Loaves are available across the city, but for the freshest and widest selection, it’s worth visiting the new shop next to the St. John’s mission. Multi-grain Forestier is a best-seller; whole wheat Cassoni, and a mild sourdough studded with walnuts and raisins are a cut above the norm.
