Like many wholesale bakers, Adrienne Weinberg and her team toiled away behind the scenes for 10 years, making restaurants look good with yummy and idiosyncratic (she makes square pies) cakes and tarts. Her deceptively low-fat dulce de leche put her on some of Toronto’s most chi-chi store shelves and menus. Now taking centre stage, she’s opened a tiny café on a rundown but gradually gentrifying stretch of Dundas West. Regulars drop in for soups, pizza and sweets, but it’s the beautiful cakes that are the raison d’être of the shop—they’re already in demand for weddings.
