Members of the Roncesvalles doggie-and-stroller set pop into Mabel’s for such homey from-scratch takeout treats as chicken pot pie, vegetable lasagna and spiced lentil loaf. Named after owner Lorraine Hawley’s nine-year-old niece, the quaint shop—which took over the Warmia Deli space last fall—offers a rustic feel, with leaded windows and weathered wooden shelves. The emphasis is on local and organic ingredients, with many vegan and gluten-free options. Sweets include seasonal fruit pies and decadent flourless chocolate cakes. Patrons chat with chefs in the open kitchen and grab a quick bite at one of two café tables. Fancy groceries include Pristine Gourmet cold-pressed canola oil, house-made organic granola, Niagara Gold cheese and Thuet bread.
