Exposed-brick walls, worn wooden floors, and sacks of flours (organic), whole grains and seeds are stacked near a baker who rolls and fills puff pastry squares for sublime Eccles cakes. A sign above a basket announces “super fantastic magically delicious baguettes.” Believe it. On offer: olive fougasse, tarts, scones, bread and butter pudding, cookies, chocolate brioche, sourdough walnut boule and purple grape-skin flour baguettes. A chalkboard lists the sandwiches: Coronation chicken, braised lamb, dill-citrus tuna, salads and soups. Pot pies and sausage rolls—puff pastry enveloping a house-made beer-spiked sausage—add savoury balance to this sweet spot. At Christmas, try plum pudding and hard sauce. Closed Monday.
