FoodBakers

Bagel House

While the rest of Bayview is asleep, the bakers here are stoking wood fires and rolling out dough. Early risers arrive at 6 a.m. for a cup of coffee and a hot, shiny bagel. The basics—plain, whole wheat, sesame and poppy seed—are still the favourites, but a dozen other kinds provide plenty of selection. Proof of their popularity: you’ll find them at Loblaws and Pusateri’s. Cream cheese (plain, smoked salmon, chive and others) and deli slices are fillers, but bagels this good don’t need fancy accoutrements.
