This artisanal bakery continues to expand: Costco is the latest major store to feature its chewy, perfectly crusted loaves. But despite rising demand from stores and restaurants across the country (and in the U.S. and Bahamas), Ace doggedly adheres to its old-world techniques: dough is shaped by hand and baked in stone deck ovens. All of its breads (there are more than 25 varieties) are free of bleach and preservatives, and contain only natural starters; a yeast-free option, the Alpine rye, is also available. Along with traditional French baguettes, the mouth-watering lineup includes organic grains, ciabatta, olive fougasse and rosemary focaccia. Ace’s headquarters boast a small café and store.
