The Yoga Sanctuary

Sisters Kimberley Sopinka and Cynthia Funk are the business-savvy yoginis behind this popular studio with two locations. The original space, at the corner of College and Yonge, sees its fair share of bliss-starved office workers—especially after 5 p.m. Students align with the divine in a huge, light-filled heritage space, which in its 115-odd-year history has served as a ballroom, as well as a studio space for the Group of Seven. The second, smaller location sits smack in the middle of Riverdale. Cozy and bright, with yellow, black and red brick walls, this studio provides a more intimate experience. Classes at both are a mix of ashtanga and hatha styles, with some “flow” innovations thrown in to keep the practice lively. Felicia’s Hatha Prana Flow on Tuesday night at the Danforth location is always packed—a live drummer accompanies her breath-inspired instruction.
