Roots Yoga Studio

Yoga purists may scoff at the affiliation—an ancient spiritual practice amid designer sweatsuits!—but they’ve obviously never had the luxury of a lengthy savasana under organic cotton blankets, which, like the environmentally friendly, PVC-free yoga mats, are free to use. (Few studios can boast such good-quality equipment.) Like the posh retail shop it’s poised above, the third-floor yoga studio reveals heightened eco-consciousness—the floor and ceiling are constructed of bamboo, a high-yield renewable resource. The view from the spacious studio is lovely: a large bay window overlooks the Rosedale ravine. Classes run seven days a week and cover a range of styles, from the more challenging ashtanga and Yoga Flow to the meditative hatha. Teachers are well informed and attentive to varying levels of ability.

How much:
drop-in classes $20, students and seniors $15; 10-class pass $160, students and seniors $120; one week unlimited yoga pass (new students only) $20.
