Toronto Island Sailing Club

One of a handful of dinghy clubs in Toronto Harbour, this volunteer-run outfit offers members the nautical lifestyle without the hassles of boat ownership. Novices are matched with old hands for mid-week social sailing in one of 12 club-owned Albacores, while regattas and Friday night races offer further opportunities for perfecting skills. Formal learn-to-sail instruction is also available, including White and Bronze Sail courses ($80–$100) approved by the Canadian Yachting Association. The clubhouse, located just steps from the ferry dock on Centre Island, offers spectacular views of downtown and is the ideal spot for a barbecue or a snooze in a hammock. Open May to mid-October.

Where: Toronto Island Marina, 416-203-6872.
