You don’t have to be rich or own a boat to go sailing on Lake Ontario. For less than $500 a year, the co-operatively run Mooredale gives you free lessons, a social life, and the use of a small fleet of Lasers, Albacores and Hobies. There are special lessons for beginners (following a curriculum designed by the Canadian Yachting Association and taught by professional instructors and club coaches) and regular social events, including Wednesday night dinners, Friday night races and weekend regattas. It’s an intimate, community-oriented club, with about 180 members and a waterfront location near Cherry Beach that can’t be beat.
How much:
$465 per year.
