Argonaut Rowing Club

Come April, crews from this 135-year-old club hit Lake Ontario at 5 a.m. to practise their strokes as dawn breaks. Argonaut operates out of a charmingly ramshackle building; many of Canada’s top rowers have paid their dues here. Learn-to-row courses teach the basics of sculling and sweeping. Master those, and you can join the recreational program (crews row two or three times a week) or one of the more intense developmental and competitive programs. In winter, rowers can train 24/7 in the indoor gym.

How much:
general membership $550 per year.
