The Studio

  • 65 Wellesley St. E. (at Church St.), Suite:405 View on map »
  • 416-929-7405
This cheery room is tricked out with nine Reformers, a Cadillac, ladder barrels, step barrels, foam rollers, a Wunda stability chair and stability balls. Despite the highly specialized equipment, The Studio fosters an air of friendly encouragement. Owner Sagrario Castilla has been teaching Pilates since 1984; she and her small team of instructors combine mat exercises with Ron Fletcher Work (developed by one of Joseph Pilates’s protégés). Ballet and stretch classes are held in a side room. In addition, The Studio employs two on-site massage therapists. Castilla’s upright comportment reflects her years as a professional dancer in Mexico. Indeed, her studio is popular with dancers; she recently helped two National Ballet Company members regain their pre-baby physiques. “There is a dancer in each one of us,” Castilla says. “When I finish a class, everyone is holding their bodies better—they have transformed themselves.”
How much:
initial consultation from $79.50; private classes from $68.90, 10 Pilates classes $192.69; multiple-session discounts available.
