“They are miracle workers here,” one student says, sauntering out of a class with poise. Indeed, everyone seems to leave this sunny studio with better posture. The focus here is on general fitness and safety: owner Laura Helsel has adapted the Stott method to better accommodate clients with injuries. Her Pilates Process class can be tailored to athletes with fitness goals, as well as people recovering from back surgery. Precision of movement is paramount—most clients do private sessions, and group classes are limited to five. The studio space is well stocked with Stott equipment: five Reformers, a Cadillac, floor mats, foam rollers and other small equipment. All 13 instructors are certified and are continually upgrading, through workshops and seminars; 90 per cent of the staff comes from a dance background. Physiotherapy and massage appointments can be booked on-site.
How much:
introductory private class $45; group classes $22–$28, semi-private classes $32–$40, private classes $62–$70; multiple-session discounts available.
